What to wear to acupuncture

It's ideal to wear loose clothing to your acupuncture session. This allows clothing to be rolled up to the elbows or knees where most of the important acupuncture points are located.

Most acupuncturists will want to stimulate some points below the elbow and knees with acupuncture needles.

If you are having your back treated, then you will be asked to remove all your upper body clothing. Most of the time women can leave their bra on.

During your acupuncture treatment, you'll be asked your medical history and your tongue and pulse will be examined.

Don't arrive to your acupuncture appointment with an empty stomach as you may feel dizzy afterwards. Hours before it's good to stop drinking coffee as it can change the colour of your tongue coating and affect the pulse diagnosis.

What not to wear to acupuncture

You should not wear tight fitting clothes such as skinny jeans or tight fitting sleeves.

What if I'm wearing work clothes to acupuncture?

If you're coming straight from work and don't have time to go home an change your clothes, you can either wear work clothes that can be rolled up to the knee and elbows or bring a change of clothing to change into when you arrive for your acupuncture treatment.

Do you have to take your clothes off for acupuncture?

No you don't need to take all your clothes off.. Most acupuncturists will not ask you to remove your clothing. Normally, you'll be asked to just roll up your trouser legs and sleeves.
