Fertility tests are incredible valuable in understanding your fertility. Some of the fertility tests, such as FSH, oestrogen, prolactin, progesterone and a semen analysis can be done by your local GP if you've been trying to conceive for 1-2 years. If you've been trying less than 1 year then your GP is unlikely to fund them and instead you can get them done privately using my lab in central London.
Some hormone tests such as AMH or NK cell biopsy and a semen DNA fragmentation test are seldom offered on the NHS. Most likely you'll need to have these fertility tests done privately, which can be done with myself at my lab in Wimpole Street, London.
There is no referral fee for current patients being treated by myself. For non-patients, there is a £50 referral fee.
Pregnancy Test* - £41
A blood test to check hCG levels, which is more accurate than a home pregnancy test.
Antimullerian Hormone (AMH)* - £96
AMH is used to measure egg reserve. The test is done via a blood analysis and can be done at any time in the menstrual cycle. This test is currently not available on the NHS.
Follicle Stimulation Hormone (FSH) - day 2/3* - £36
An FSH test is a good indicator of how the follicles are responding and growing. It's best to get this test done on day 2 of a menstrual cycle.
Harmony Test* - £395
Testing for Down syndrome along with Edwards syndrome and Patau syndrome can be done from 10 weeks with a blood test called a Harmony prenatal test. This test checks for the risk of trisomy 21, 18, and 13 and has a high rate of accuracy with only a false-positive rate of less than 0.1%. It's also possible to check for Turner and Klinefelter syndromes. You can also select to know the gender of your baby, again from 10 weeks rather than the traditional 20 weeks. The Harmony prenatal test is not currently offered by the NHS and has to be taken privately.
Luteinising Hormone (LH)* - £36
Used to see if the pituitary gland is working correctly. LH helps with ovulation and maintaining the corpus luteum.
Oestrogen* - £36
This test checks the main oestrogen hormone oestradiol (E2). Oestrogens are important in thickening the uterus lining.
Prolactin* - £36
High levels of the hormone prolactin can interfere with fertility. It's therefore useful to test this hormone and see if its a factor.
Progesterone* - £36
Progesterone is often measured to see if ovulation has happened. The test is done via blood analysis around 7 days after ovulation.
NK Cell Biopsy* - £390
Part of cutting edge fertility testing, this test checks the amount of Natural Killer cells in the uterus, which could affect implantation and miscarrying.
Semen Analysis* - £149
This is a general semen analysis that checks the number of sperm, its motility and morphology.
Semen DNA Fragmentation* - £363
This test can be used if there is a history of reoccurring miscarriages and a chromosome analysis needs to be performed to check for any problems.
Testosterone* - £36
This test can be used by woman diagnosed with PCOS.
*All tests are performed at a private clinic in central London. Additional tests are available upon request.
