How often should I have acupuncture for IVF and infertility?

Acupuncture is a dose like every other treatment. Its affects last for around 3-4 days then need to be repeated. The best treatment option is to have acupuncture twice a week for maximum effect. However, due to financial limitations, most people will have acupuncture treatment once a week.

Having acupuncture treatment less frequently than once a week is not advisable as its effects will be minimal and it will have little benefit.

Having treatment from a fertility specialist such as myself will reduce anxiety and stress levels, regulate fertility hormones, boost energy and blood levels, increase blood flow to the uterus, improve implantation and pregnancy rates as well as reduce the chances of having a miscarriage.

How often should I have acupuncture during IVF

When a women undergoing fertility treatment such as IVF received acupuncture, their success rates increased with more live births.

The frequency of acupuncture treatment changes. Based on new research, the ideal treatment plan to increase the success rates of IVF, is to start treatment 2-3 months before the IVF cycle and have at least 9 sessions of acupuncture before the embryo transfer.

When you have the embryo transfer, you should have acupuncture before and afterwards, as close as possible to the transfer. The acupuncture points used will often be different before and after transfer of the embryo back into the women.

Research suggests that acupuncture improves IVF success rates. Women who received acupuncture for fertility during their ivf treatment has higher success rates and live births.

When a woman takes the ovary stimulating drugs to grow multiple eggs, acupuncture treatment should be twice a week. This is necessary to help the ovaries grow multiple follicles.
