How often should I have acupuncture for infertility?
Acupuncture is a dose like every other treatment. Its affects last for around 3-4 days then need to be repeated. It's ideal to have acupuncture twice a week. However, due to financial limitations, most people will have acupuncture treatment once a week.
Having acupuncture treatment less frequently than once a week is not advisable as its effects will be minimal and it will have little benefit.
However, you can have acupuncture treatment every two weeks if you are also taking Chinese herbs. A combination of acupuncture and Chinese fertility herbs for 3-4 months has been shown in research to be twice as effective as IVF drugs.
Having treatment from a fertility specialist such as myself will reduce anxiety and stress, regulate fertility hormones, boost energy and blood levels, aid blood flow to the uterus, improve implantation and reduce the chances of having a miscarriage.
How often should I have acupuncture during IVF cycle
When undergoing fertility treatment such as IVF, the frequency of acupuncture treatment changes. Based on new research, the ideal treatment plan to increase the success rates of IVF, is to start treatment 2-3 months before the IVF cycle and have at least 9 sessions of acupuncture before the embryo transfer.
When you have the embryo transfer, you should have acupuncture before and afterwards, as close as possible to the transfer, without causing too much stress getting to and from the IVF clinic to the acupuncture clinic.
When a woman takes the ovary stimulating drugs to grow multiple eggs, acupuncture treatment should be twice a week. This is necessary to help the ovaries grow multiple follicles.
