It's a common mental health and emotional health problem in today's hectic world and can form the basis of a wide variety of health conditions. 2. Symptoms Physical symptoms of stress include unable to concentrate, panic attack, irritable or restless, increased heart rate, increase levels of cortisol hormones, chest pains and not being able to sleep, which are all symptoms of chronic anxiety disorders. 3. Causes Stress is often caused by our basic survival instinct of fight or flight response. Chronic stress levels can lead to anxiety and depression, which in turn can lead to more serious health problems such as heart disease. Some stress can be good but when it's more than for just a couple of hours, the body goes into resistance phase and starts to consume proteins and lipids making the body weak. Stress related hormones such as cortisol can interfere with the normal working of the body, for example a woman's menstrual cycle and fertility.
