Acupuncture treatment for dysmenorrhoea
Dysmenorrhoea is pain before or during the menstrual bleed. The pain can be a dull throbbing or a stabbing sensation. An ultrasound or laparoscopy is used to see if any fibroids, endometriosis, adenomyosis, tumours or inflammation can be seen. In western medicine, dysmenorrhoea can be caused by either:
- High levels of progesterone
- Contraction of blood vessels to the uterus (uterine ischaemia)
Treatment of primary dysmenorrhoea
Electro acupuncture of acupuncture points is very good at treating dysmenorrhoea (period pains). It does this by regulating hormones, menstrual symptoms, chronic pain, energy and blood flow, are regulating a woman's emotions, all of which can cause dysmenorrhoea.
Strong emotions cause energy and blood to stagnate. When energy and blood stagnate it leads to pain.
