Blocked fallopian tubes
On this page
1. Overview
Blocked fallopian tubes is a cause of infertility, which obstructs the sperm reaching and fertilising the egg.
2. Symptoms
Symptoms of blocked fallopian tubes includes infertility.
3. Causes
Blocked fallopian tubes can be caused by several reasons:
- Pelvic inflammatory disease
- Endometriosis
- Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) such as gonorrhoea or chlamydia
- Past ectopic pregnancy
- Fibroids
- Past abdominal surgery
If the fallopian obstruction is caused by scarring, there is no way to unblock it. In such cases, in-vitro fertilization (IVF) will be the best fertility treatment.
Internal investigations such as a hycosy, hyfosy or a hysterosalpingography (HSG) can remove debris obstructing a blocked fallopian tube.
4. Acupuncture for blocked fallopian tubes
Acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine have been shown in research to be able to unblock less chronic obstructions, thereby improving pregnancy rates.
5. Research
A clinical study by Deng, et al. showed how fallopian tube obstructive infertility can be successfully treated using acupuncture and chinese medicine by increasing increasing blood to the tubal obstruction after a course of treatment.
