Acupuncture regulates and increases AMH levels
Having high levels of anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) and follicles (antral follicle count) is important for good fertility. AMH has become the new measure of underlying fertility.
Research has shown that acupuncture is able to increase antral follicle count (AFC) and anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) levels, whilst reducing oestrogen and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) levels as well as follicle-stimulating hormone/luteinizing hormone (FSH:LH) ratio levels.
This allows for greater natural fertility and improved IVF success rates by increasing their quality and the number of eggs collected during egg retrieval. This helps to increase both natural fertility and the success rates of IVF and having a baby.
In women with PCOS, AMH levels are higher than they should be as there are more eggs trying to mature. Acupuncture has been shown to reduce AMH levels and the ovaries thereby regulating them and improving PCOS and fertility.
