Acupuncture reduces OHSS in women undergoing IVF
Ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS) is a serious side effect of IVF treatment.
It is caused when the ovaries are overstimulated, producing more than 12 follicles. This amount of follicles causes fluid to move causing internal oedema. A woman might feel pain and bloating.
The fluid needs to be removed before it can cause further complications. Often drugs such as cabergoline are used to treat it.
New research has found that acupuncture is able to prevent and treat OHSS without the side effects of cabergoline.
