1. Overview
Anmian — Ān Mián (安眠) — is an acupuncture point on the Extra point (behind the ear) meridian. Its English name, Peaceful Sleep, reflects the point’s classical character and location. It is used regularly in acupuncture practice for a range of conditions.

2. Location
At the midpoint between GB 20 (Fengchi) and TB 17 (Yifeng).
3. Actions
- Calms the Mind and promotes sleep — the most specific sleep point in acupuncture
- Relieves anxiety and restlessness
4. Indications
- Insomnia — the most specific extra point for sleep
- Anxiety and agitation
- Palpitations at night
- Dizziness
5. Needling
Perpendicular insertion 0.8–1.0 cun.
Important: Acupuncture should only be performed by a fully qualified practitioner. All needles I use are sterile, single-use and disposed of in a clinical sharps container immediately after treatment.
6. Clinical notes
Anmian (Peaceful Sleep) is the single most specific acupuncture point for insomnia and is routinely added to any sleep protocol. Located between GB 20 and TB 17, it combines Wind-expelling properties with its Mind-calming effect. The full insomnia prescription typically includes Anmian, GV 20, Si Shen Cong, Yintang, HT 7 and SP 6.
