1. Overview

Bí Liú (鼻流) — Nose Flow — is an extra acupuncture point (not on any of the fourteen main channels). It is used as an adjunct to channel-based prescriptions in acupuncture practice for the indications below.

I am Dr (TCM) Attilio D’Alberto, a member of the British Acupuncture Council with over 25 years of clinical experience. I use this point as part of individually tailored acupuncture prescriptions at my clinic in Wokingham, Berkshire.

2. Location

On the lateral aspect of the nostril, in the depression at the upper border of the nasolabial groove, adjacent to LI 20.

3. Actions

  1. Opens the nose
  2. Disperses Wind

4. Indications

  1. Allergic rhinitis
  2. Chronic sinusitis
  3. Nasal congestion and blocked nose
  4. Loss of smell

5. Needling

Oblique upward 0.3–0.5 cun toward the base of the nose.

Important: Acupuncture should only be performed by a fully qualified practitioner. Never attempt self-needling. All needles I use are sterile, single-use and disposed of immediately after treatment in a clinical sharps container.

6. Clinical notes

Local nasal-clearing point used adjunctively with LI 20, Yin Tang and Bi Tong in rhinitis and sinusitis prescriptions.

7. Treatment at my clinic
