1. Overview
BL 28 — Páng Guāng Shū (膀胱俞) — is an acupuncture point on the Bladder meridian. Its English name, Bladder Back-Transporting Point, reflects the point’s classical character and location. It is used regularly in acupuncture practice for a range of conditions.

2. Location
1.5 cun lateral to the lower border of the spinous process of S2, level with the second sacral foramen.
3. Actions
- Back-Shu point of the Bladder — promotes urination and resolves Dampness
- Clears Damp-Heat from the Lower Jiao
- Strengthens the lumbar and sacral region
4. Indications
- Urinary retention and difficulty urinating
- Urinary tract infections
- Lumbar and sacral pain
- Sciatica at the sacral level
- Leucorrhoea from Damp-Heat
5. Needling
Perpendicular insertion 0.8–1.2 cun.
Important: Acupuncture should only be performed by a fully qualified practitioner. All needles I use are sterile, single-use and disposed of in a clinical sharps container immediately after treatment.
6. Clinical notes
BL 28 is the Back-Shu point of the Bladder. Combined with CV 3 (Front-Mu of the Bladder) it forms the Front-Mu / Back-Shu pair for Bladder organ regulation. It is regularly combined with SP 9 and SP 6 for urinary tract infections and is an important local point for sacral pain.
