1. Overview
BL 37 — Yīn Mén (殷门) — is an acupuncture point on the Bladder meridian. Its English name, Gate of Abundance, reflects the point’s classical character and location. It is used regularly in acupuncture practice for a range of conditions.

2. Location
On the posterior thigh, 6 cun below BL 36, on the line connecting BL 36 and BL 40.
3. Actions
- Activates the meridian and relieves posterior thigh and sciatic pain
- Strengthens the lumbar spine
- Relaxes sinews of the posterior thigh
4. Indications
- Sciatica along the posterior thigh — primary local point
- Low back pain radiating down the leg
- Hamstring tightness and strain
- Lower limb paralysis and weakness
5. Needling
Perpendicular insertion 1.5–2.5 cun.
Important: Acupuncture should only be performed by a fully qualified practitioner. All needles I use are sterile, single-use and disposed of in a clinical sharps container immediately after treatment.
6. Clinical notes
BL 37 is an important local point on the Bladder channel in the posterior thigh, used in the treatment of sciatica where pain is prominent in the posterior thigh. Combined with GB 30, BL 36, BL 40 and BL 60 it forms a comprehensive Bladder channel sciatica prescription that addresses the full length of the nerve pathway.
