1. Overview
CV 7 — Yīn Jiāo (阴交) — is an acupuncture point on the Conception Vessel (Ren Mai) meridian. Its English name, Yin Intersection, reflects the point’s classical character and location. It is used regularly in acupuncture practice for a range of conditions.

2. Location
On the anterior midline, 1 cun below the umbilicus.
3. Actions
- Regulates the uterus and the Ren Mai
- Meeting point of Ren Mai with the Kidney and Chong Mai
- Resolves Damp-Heat from the Lower Jiao
- Tonifies Kidney Qi
4. Indications
- Irregular menstruation and uterine disorders
- Oedema from Kidney Yang deficiency
- Lower abdominal pain
- Post-partum disorders
5. Needling
Perpendicular insertion 0.8–1.2 cun. Avoid during pregnancy.
Important: Acupuncture should only be performed by a fully qualified practitioner. All needles I use are sterile, single-use and disposed of in a clinical sharps container immediately after treatment.
6. Clinical notes
CV 7 is the meeting point of the Ren Mai with the Kidney and Chong Mai channels. It bridges CV 6 (Sea of Qi) and CV 4 (Gate of Original Qi) and is used in gynaecological prescriptions targeting the Lower Jiao. Combined with CV 4 and ST 29 it forms a comprehensive lower abdominal prescription for uterine Cold and irregular menstruation.
