1. Overview
GB 25 — Jīng Mén (京门) — is an acupuncture point on the Gallbladder meridian. Its English name, Capital Gate, reflects the point’s classical character and location. It is used regularly in acupuncture practice for a range of conditions.

2. Location
On the lateral abdomen at the lower border of the free end of the 12th rib.
3. Actions
- Front-Mu point of the Kidney — directly regulates the Kidney
- Tonifies the Kidney and warms Yang
- Promotes urination and resolves Dampness
- Strengthens the lumbar region
4. Indications
- Kidney deficiency — lower back pain and weakness
- Urinary difficulty and oedema from Kidney Yang deficiency
- Borborygmus and diarrhoea from Cold
- Hypochondriac and lateral rib pain
5. Needling
Oblique insertion 0.5–0.8 cun.
Important: Acupuncture should only be performed by a fully qualified practitioner. All needles I use are sterile, single-use and disposed of in a clinical sharps container immediately after treatment.
6. Clinical notes
GB 25 is the Front-Mu (Alarm) point of the Kidney, despite being on the Gallbladder meridian. It is used alongside BL 23 (Back-Shu of the Kidney) to form the Front-Mu / Back-Shu pair for Kidney organ regulation. Palpated diagnostically for Kidney pathology. Important in fertility practice as part of the Kidney assessment.
