1. Overview

KD 24Líng Xū (灵墟) — is an acupuncture point on the Kidney meridian. Its English name, Spirit Ruins, reflects the point’s classical character and location. It is used in acupuncture practice as part of channel-balancing prescriptions for a range of conditions.

I am Dr (TCM) Attilio D’Alberto, a member of the British Acupuncture Council with over 25 years of clinical experience. I use KD 24 as part of individually tailored acupuncture prescriptions at my clinic in Wokingham, Berkshire.

2. Location

In the 3rd intercostal space, 2 cun lateral to the anterior midline.

3. Actions

  1. Regulates Qi in the chest
  2. Calms the Shen
  3. Descends rebellious Qi

4. Indications

  1. Cough and wheezing
  2. Fullness of the chest and hypochondrium
  3. Mastitis
  4. Vomiting
  5. Nasal congestion

5. Needling

Oblique or transverse 0.3 to 0.5 cun. Do not needle perpendicularly — risk of pneumothorax.

Important: Acupuncture should only be performed by a fully qualified practitioner. Never attempt self-needling. All needles I use are sterile, single-use and disposed of immediately after treatment in a clinical sharps container.

6. Clinical notes

KD 24 is a local chest point. In classical texts it is associated with calming the Shen when Kidney Yin fails to root the Heart.
