1. Overview
KD 27 — Shū Fǔ (俞府) — is an acupuncture point on the Kidney meridian. Its English name, Shu Mansion, reflects the point’s classical character and location. It is used regularly in acupuncture practice for a range of conditions.
I am Dr (TCM) Attilio D’Alberto, a member of the British Acupuncture Council with over 25 years of clinical experience, practising at my clinic in Wokingham, Berkshire.
2. Location
On the anterior chest, in the depression below the clavicle, 2 cun lateral to the anterior midline.
3. Actions
- Descends rebellious Lung and Kidney Qi — the Kidney channel reaches the chest here
- Stops cough and relieves wheezing
- Resolves Phlegm
- Harmonises the Stomach and descends rebellious Qi
4. Indications
- Cough and asthma — the Kidney fails to grasp the Lung Qi
- Shortness of breath from Kidney Qi not anchoring the Lungs
- Chest pain and tightness
- Nausea and vomiting
5. Needling
Oblique or transverse insertion 0.3–0.5 cun. Do not needle deeply.
Important: Acupuncture should only be performed by a fully qualified practitioner. All needles I use are sterile, single-use and disposed of in a clinical sharps container immediately after treatment.
6. Clinical notes
KD 27 is the terminal point of the Kidney meridian where it connects with the chest. In TCM the Kidney is responsible for grasping the Lung Qi during inhalation — when Kidney Qi is deficient, breath becomes shallow and wheezing occurs. KD 27 addresses this Lung-Kidney axis, combined with KD 3, LU 7 and CV 17 for breathlessness from Kidney deficiency.
7. Treatment at my clinic
I use KD 27 as part of tailored acupuncture prescriptions for conditions including Allergies, Chronic fatigue syndrome. Each treatment is individually designed following a full TCM assessment.
