1. Overview
LV 1 — Dà Dūn (大敦) — is an acupuncture point on the Liver meridian. Its English name, Great Pile, reflects the point’s classical character and location. It is used regularly in acupuncture practice for a range of conditions.
I am Dr (TCM) Attilio D’Alberto, a member of the British Acupuncture Council with over 25 years of clinical experience, practising at my clinic in Wokingham, Berkshire.

Shallow insertion 0.1 cun, or prick to bleed.
Important: Acupuncture should only be performed by a fully qualified practitioner. All needles I use are sterile, single-use and disposed of in a clinical sharps container immediately after treatment.
6. Clinical notes
LV 1 is the Well (Jing) and Wood point of the Liver meridian. Well points are the most distal on the meridian and are used for acute conditions and restoring consciousness. LV 1 is particularly important for uterine bleeding (menorrhagia) via the Liver's role in storing and regulating Blood, and for genital disorders via the Liver channel's anatomical pathway through the genitals.
7. Treatment at my clinic
I use LV 1 as part of tailored acupuncture prescriptions for conditions including Irregular menstrual cycle, Endometriosis. Each treatment is individually designed following a full TCM assessment.
