On this page
1. Overview
LV 2 — Xíng Jiān (行间) — is an acupuncture point on the Liver meridian. Its English name, Moving Between, reflects the point’s classical character and location. It is used regularly in acupuncture practice for a range of conditions.
I am Dr (TCM) Attilio D’Alberto, a member of the British Acupuncture Council with over 25 years of clinical experience. I practise at my clinic in Wokingham, Berkshire.
2. Location
On the dorsum of the foot, between the 1st and 2nd toes proximal to the web margin.
3. Actions
- Clears Liver Fire — the primary point for draining excess Liver Fire
- Spreads Liver Qi and subdues Yang
- Cools Blood Heat
- Calms Liver Wind
4. Indications
- Liver Fire — red eyes, intense headache, bitter taste and anger
- Hypertension from Liver Fire
- Insomnia from Liver Fire disturbing the Heart
- Heavy menstrual bleeding from Blood Heat
5. Needling
Perpendicular insertion 0.5–0.8 cun.
Important: Acupuncture should only be performed by a fully qualified practitioner. All needles I use are sterile, single-use and disposed of in a clinical sharps container immediately after treatment.
6. Clinical notes
LV 2 is the Ying-Spring and Fire point of the Liver, the primary point when the Liver pattern has progressed to Fire. Combined with LV 3 it clears both stagnation and Fire simultaneously. For hypertension from Liver Fire, LV 2 + GB 20 is a powerful combination. It complements LV 3 when the excess Heat component is dominant.
7. Treatment at my clinic
I use LV 2 as part of tailored acupuncture prescriptions for conditions including High blood pressure, Insomnia, Migraines. Each treatment is individually designed following a full TCM assessment.
