1. Overview
ST 28 — Shuǐ Dào (水道) — is an acupuncture point on the Stomach meridian. Its English name, Water Passage, reflects the point’s classical character and location. It is used in acupuncture practice as part of channel-balancing prescriptions for a range of conditions.

2. Location
3 cun below the navel, 2 cun lateral to CV-4 Guanyuan.

4. Indications
- Retention of urine
- Retention of feces
- Edema
- Cold in the Bladder
- Distention and fullness of the lower abdomen
- Distention and pain of the lower abdomen which radiates to the vagina
- Shan disorder
- Pain of the lumbar vertebrae
- Pain of the shoulder and back
5. Needling
Perpendicular insertion 1 to 1,5 cun. Caution: deep insertion may penetrate the peritoneal cavity in thin patients or may penetrate a full Bladder. Advise the patient to evacuate prior to treatment.
Important: Acupuncture should only be performed by a fully qualified practitioner. Never attempt self-needling. All needles I use are sterile, single-use and disposed of immediately after treatment in a clinical sharps container.
