Zi Gong (子宫) — Uterus Point (Extra Point)
Zi Gong (“Uterus”) is an extra acupuncture point located on the lower abdomen, named directly for its action. It is one of the most important fertility and gynaecology points and is widely used for menstrual irregularity, prolapse, infertility and pelvic pain.

1. About Zi Gong
Zi Gong (literally “Child Palace” or “Uterus”) is a classical extra acupuncture point — not on any of the twelve regular channels but recognised since the Tang Dynasty for its direct effect on the uterus and reproductive organs. It is the principal extra point in gynaecology and fertility practice.
2. Zi Gong location
3 cun lateral to CV 3 (Zhong Ji), which sits 4 cun below the umbilicus. The point therefore lies on the lower abdomen, lateral to and slightly below the level of CV 3.

- Raises the Qi to treat prolapse
- Resolves pelvic stasis and stops pain
- Tonifies the Kidney and benefits fertility
4. Indications
- Infertility — one of the principal local points
- Uterine prolapse
- Irregular menstruation, amenorrhoea
- Dysmenorrhoea (painful periods)
- Pelvic inflammatory disease
- Endometriosis (pelvic Blood stasis pattern)
- Adhesions from past pelvic surgery
- IVF support (combined with other fertility points)
5. Needling
Perpendicular insertion 1.0–1.5 cun. Strictly contraindicated during pregnancy. May use moxa over the point (when not pregnant) to warm the uterus in Cold patterns.
6. Treatment at my clinic
Zi Gong is one of the points I use most frequently in fertility acupuncture and gynaecology. It is typically combined with SP 6, KD 3, ST 29, CV 4 and the back-shu points BL 23 / BL 31. I see patients at my clinic in Wokingham, Berkshire.
