1. Overview

CV 18Yù Táng (玉堂) — is an acupuncture point on the Conception Vessel (Ren Mai). Its English name, Jade Hall, reflects the point’s classical character and location. It is used in acupuncture practice as part of channel-balancing prescriptions for a range of conditions.

I am Dr (TCM) Attilio D’Alberto, a member of the British Acupuncture Council with over 25 years of clinical experience. I use CV 18 as part of individually tailored acupuncture prescriptions at my clinic in Wokingham, Berkshire.

2. Location

On the midline oft the sternum, level with the junction of the third intercostal space and the sternum.

3. Actions

  1. Unbinds the chest
  2. Regulates Qi
  3. Descends Qi

4. Indications

  1. Pain of the chest
  2. Pain of the sternum
  3. Agitation with cough
  4. Uprising Qi
  5. Fullness of the chest
  6. Difficulty breathing
  7. Wheezing
  8. Dyspnea
  9. Cold Phlegm

5. Needling

Transverse insertion directed superiorly or inferiorly along the channel, 0.5-1 cun.

Important: Acupuncture should only be performed by a fully qualified practitioner. Never attempt self-needling. All needles I use are sterile, single-use and disposed of immediately after treatment in a clinical sharps container.

6. Clinical notes

CV 18 Yù Táng (Jade Hall) is used as part of channel-balancing prescriptions tailored to the patient’s individual TCM diagnosis.

I use CV 18 as part of tailored acupuncture prescriptions for conditions including Coughing, Asthma. Each treatment is individually designed following a full TCM assessment.
