1. Overview

CV 20Huá Gài (华盖) — is an acupuncture point on the Conception Vessel (Ren Mai). Its English name, Magnificent Canopy, reflects the point’s classical character and location. It is used in acupuncture practice as part of channel-balancing prescriptions for a range of conditions.

I am Dr (TCM) Attilio D’Alberto, a member of the British Acupuncture Council with over 25 years of clinical experience. I use CV 20 as part of individually tailored acupuncture prescriptions at my clinic in Wokingham, Berkshire.

2. Location

1 cun below CV-21 Xuanji, level with the first intercostal space.

3. Actions

  1. Unbinds the chest
  2. Regulates Qi
  3. Descends Qi

4. Indications

  1. Dyspnea
  2. Wheezing
  3. Asthma
  4. Cough
  5. Rebellious Qi
  6. Dyspnea with inability to speak
  7. Pain and fullness of the chest and lateral costal region
  8. Difficult ingestion
  9. Bronchitis

5. Needling

Transverse insertion directed inferiorly or superiorly along the channel, 0.5 to 1 cun.

Important: Acupuncture should only be performed by a fully qualified practitioner. Never attempt self-needling. All needles I use are sterile, single-use and disposed of immediately after treatment in a clinical sharps container.

CV 20 Huá Gài (Magnificent Canopy) is used as part of channel-balancing prescriptions tailored to the patient’s individual TCM diagnosis.
