Yù Yè (玉液) — Jade Fluid
On this page
1. Overview
Yù Yè (玉液) — Jade Fluid — is an extra acupuncture point (not on any of the fourteen main channels). It is used as an adjunct to channel-based prescriptions in acupuncture practice for the indications below.
I am Dr (TCM) Attilio D’Alberto, a member of the British Acupuncture Council with over 25 years of clinical experience. I use this point as part of individually tailored acupuncture prescriptions at my clinic in Wokingham, Berkshire.
2. Location
On the right underside of the tongue, on the sublingual vein, at the base of the tongue. The mirror-image of Jin Jin.
3. Actions
- Clears Heat
- Generates fluids
- Reduces swelling
4. Indications
- Aphasia after stroke
- Tongue swelling and stiffness
- Severe thirst and diabetes (classical)
- Mouth ulcers
5. Needling
Prick to bleed with a three-edged needle. Not usually retained.
Important: Acupuncture should only be performed by a fully qualified practitioner. Never attempt self-needling. All needles I use are sterile, single-use and disposed of immediately after treatment in a clinical sharps container.
6. Clinical notes
Right-sided pair of Jin Jin. Together they were classically used for severe stroke aphasia and diabetes-related severe thirst (Xiao Ke syndrome).
7. Treatment at my clinic
I use Yù Yè as part of tailored acupuncture prescriptions for conditions including Stroke recovery. Each treatment is individually designed following a full TCM assessment.
