1. Overview
BL 2 — Cuán Zhú (攒竹) — is an acupuncture point on the Bladder meridian. Its English name, Gathered Bamboo, reflects the point’s classical character and location. It is used regularly in acupuncture practice for a range of conditions.

2. Location
In the depression at the medial end of the eyebrow, directly above BL 1.
3. Actions
- Expels Wind and relieves frontal headache
- Benefits the eyes and clears Heat
- Local point for the brow and supraorbital region
4. Indications
- Frontal headache — one of the most important points
- Supraorbital pain and brow ache
- Eye disorders — redness, pain and twitching eyelid
- Facial paralysis affecting the brow
- Hiccup
5. Needling
Subcutaneous insertion 0.3–0.5 cun directed horizontally towards BL 1, or transversely towards the temple.
Important: Acupuncture should only be performed by a fully qualified practitioner. All needles I use are sterile, single-use and disposed of in a clinical sharps container immediately after treatment.
6. Clinical notes
BL 2 is an important local point for frontal headache and eye disorders. Combined with Yintang and GV 23 it forms the primary prescription for frontal headache. For blepharospasm (involuntary eyelid twitching), BL 2 combined with BL 1 and GB 14 is the standard local prescription. Care needed to avoid bruising in the orbital region.
